SYNOPSIS

Black Snake follows Ciro, a man who returns to the Tatacoa Desert after years away to care for his dying mother. Upon his return, he must confront the relationships he left behind, the secrets of his past, and an ancestral legacy tied to the last guardians of a territory that is as fragile as it is captivating.

This project stands out as one of the most prominent Latin American co-productions of 2025, further strengthening the presence of Colombian talent within the world's leading arthouse and international film festival circuits.

The film was selected for the ACID section of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, one of the most important showcases for independent cinema worldwide. This selection marked its world premiere and the beginning of its international festival journey.

Black Snake was featured at the Rio International Film Festival (Festival do Rio), one of the most significant film events in Latin America.

The film was selected for the Biarritz Amérique Latine Festival, an event dedicated to highlighting outstanding Latin American productions for European audiences and industry professionals.

The film was part of the official program of the French Film Festival of Colombia and was later chosen as the festival's closing film.

Black Snake was also included in the program of Cinélatino Rencontres de Toulouse, one of Europe's leading festivals dedicated to Latin American cinema.

Release & Distribution

Production & Context

Black Snake had its world premiere in May 2025 in the ACID section of the Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious showcases for independent cinema. Following its debut, the film embarked on an international festival circuit across Europe and Latin America.

International sales are handled by MMM Film Sales, while the film was released theatrically in Colombia in November 2025 after its successful festival run.

Black Snake is a co-production between France, Colombia, and Brazil directed by Aurélien Vernhes-Lermusiaux. Filmed in the Tatacoa Desert in Colombia's Huila region, the landscape serves as a central element of the narrative, reinforcing the film's themes of memory, identity, belonging, and humanity's connection to the natural world.

The project was produced by Dublin Films (France), Burning (Colombia), and Vulcana Cinema (Brazil), with support from international film funds and audiovisual incentives, including mechanisms that promote film production in Colombia.
